It was 10th February 2013 and we went to the inland village of Alte in the Algarve which celebrates Carnaval. Music, colourful floats and costumes, and a fantastic atmosphere – this little village really knows how to enjoy itself!
But I’ll let the pictures tell the story…

Colourful floats

Packed streets

Elaborate costumes

…and imaginative costumes!!!

An opportunity for the locals to dress up!

Colour everywhere.

The army float.

The girlie float.

Spot the odd one out!

Some floats needed a broad mind…

The wedding float!!!

The only two Policia we saw – and they were not needed.

We kept bumping into Laurel and Hardy.

Should have gone to Specsavers!

The figurehead on the circus float.

The Devil stopped for refreshments.

Observer or performer?

Light snacks available.

Two participants desert their posts and head off for a beer.

One young chap decided to collect the used streamers.

Helping Dad to drive the float…

…but he couldnt keep his eyes on the road!

All a bit much for some of the younger ones…

All a bit much for an alien too.

The adults enjoyed it!

The spectators enjoyed it!

The kids on the Hollywood float enjoyed it!

The film stars enjoyed it!

…but not everyone enjoyed it!

Great fotos chip! SO sorry we missed the carnival. The wedding float looks like they were having a good time 🙂
Also nice to se the cafes open. I think next year we will go to Alte instead of Loule
Cool carnival pictures. You are in Portugal, aren’t you?
I’m in the cold UK at the moment but will be back in Portugal in a couple of months.
Beautiful. Spent some good times there in my youth with good friends.
