Carnival

This week we took time out to go to the Carnival in Alte, a small village inland on the Algarve, southern Portugal.

Carnival (or Carnaval as it is termed in Portugal) is probably best known in Brazil which, of course, is largely populated by people who descended from the Portuguese. The language of Brazil is Portuguese.

But we were attending a very much smaller celebration in a small but quaint village. The sun shone on this colourful gathering of locals who certainly knew how to enjoy themslves.
